Alina Tatum
"YOU'RE LOOKIN' AT COUNTRY"
Review by Lucky Boyd

As I sat down to write about Alina Tatum, I read through a few pages of information about her career thus far. It reads like several other thousand teenage girls around the country. She started singing ten minutes after she was born; she's won every contest from here to Kalamazoo; she's been on TV; she's recorded a few albums of cover tunes. So far, since it is so very hard to impress me, I am not. I continue through her press information and I find her photo and latest CD cover. Suddenly, I realize Alina Tatum has something that narrows the field quite a bit. She's set apart from about 90% of the aforementioned thousands by the fact that she has 'the look.' Yes, it still takes a visual presence in this business. Alina has a million dollar smile and a look that will stand the test of time rather than fade away when her adolescent 'cute' disappears. So, I'm thinking, okay she's like a few hundred other female singers nationwide. Let's see how she sounds. This is where Alina Tatum leaves the pack. Tatum has one of those voices that comes along ever so rarely. Her voice is strong, perfectly true, zero vibrato unless it's forced, and crystal clear at every range. As a cover singer, there are songs you just don't do unless you can nail them. "Joleen" and "I Will Always Love You" are near the top of the list. Alina Tatum nails these songs with a force unmatched by anything the current music market has to offer. American Idol and Nashville Star should change their slogans to "We're looking for Alina Tatum." Yeah, she's that good. Now, I want an album full of original material, performed by the best pickers in the state. Give me that, and you'll be looking at a country music superstar. Dolly Parton, if you're reading this, call me and let's get Alina Tatum on the country charts. Get this disc today, right now, don't wait!
